We’ve had patients ask us about whitening toothpaste and if there are any harmful side effects.  The quick answer is no – however, you may experience sensitivity which would qualify as a “bad side effect” and this will vary from person to person.

Sharp Pains in Your Teeth after Bleaching – WHY?!

Have you ever experienced those nasty little sharp pains in your teeth after bleaching them? They can be crazy painful and yet, then there are people who don’t experience it at all. What’s up with that? Everyone is completely different in what they experience after they bleach their teeth, just like with anything else in life.

So, what makes those zingers happen?
Our teeth have tubules in them which, if you can picture are something like the pores in our skin. When we bleach our teeth, the bleach seeps into those tubules and bleaches from within the enamel to get rid of stain. Sometimes due to this happening, it can increase blood flow to the pulp (living connective tissue and cells) of the tooth which can cause pressure and give you that twinge of pain. Continue Reading…
