Are you a nail biter? Do you find yourself chewing your nails or opening packages with your teeth? These are bad habits that can cause an issue for your teeth in the long run.
As we age, tooth enamel starts wearing down from use, especially on our front teeth. This leaves us susceptible to chipping the enamel on those teeth more easily, so when we do apply force in that area, you could possibly cause damage.
You may not be aware that you are doing things that can hurt your teeth, but just think about the habits that you may have. As mentioned before, chewing your nails can wreak havoc on your enamel. Also, things like opening bags of food, biting fishing line or even pulling beef jerky with your front teeth all puts undue stress on your enamel.
Try to make small adjustments to change the way you do things. Always carry a nail clippers or file with you in your car, or at work. Use a scissors if you can’t get a bag open instead of tearing it with your teeth. Bring a jack knife with you when you are fishing to cut the line and pull beef jerky to the side of your mouth instead of from the front. It will just take a simple effort on your part and hopefully, your teeth will thank you for it!
