Yes, they can be somewhat painful if there is a bad infection in the tooth and the fact that it can fight the anesthetic that’s administered. But, generally, as long as you are numb, there should be very little pain, if any.  If you are feeling discomfort, you may need more anesthetic. Always let your dentist know if it is still hurting you so he/she can give you more.

Do they want to bring them into their own dentist or do they take them to a pedodontist that specializes in children’s dentistry? Parents asking, “Does My Child Need to see a Pedodontist?” is a fairly common question.

Pediatricians may recommend taking your children to a pedodontist because they themselves are a Dr. specializing in children’s health so they think it may be best to have your children see a dentist that specializes in children’s dentistry. This is not necessarily the case.
